In the first week, in type class, we were taught to put 2 letters together to make an interesting shape. Each student had to download certain fonts to do the assignment and we were only supposed to use these typefaces. I struggled with this because the software wouldn’t let me in and download the fonts it took me two days trying to fix this problem which was then fixed by it. For the assignment we had to put 2 letters from latin latin, arabic arabic and latin arabic together. It had to be 50 percent black and 50 percent white, at first I thought each letter had to be 50 percent but that was wrong because more white would show on the page. It was very difficult for me and we had to create 30, 10 of each arabic arabic, latin latin, latin arabic.
Type – Week 3
Throughout the type project we had to choose two letters and combine them together in a 20 by 20 box, one letter had to be white and the other had to be black both 50 percent this was the most difficult for me because I couldn’t find a way to make them 50 50. We discussed in class that it was harder with Arabic because it had more space. Throughout the process I thought of choosing the typefaces that were mostly bold that way it would help filling more white space with black and for the white I’d choose typefaces with thin lines which helped a lot. Also the more I made and tried the easier it was to create my final nine. The whole process helped me a lot as I learnt new things and ways that made it easier to make my final. At first it took me a long time to create one however by the end it was much quicker. There’s a big difference in the work I did in the beginning and my final ones.
100 things
Throughout this week for my 100 things project I first experimented different mediums I can use to create my ideas. I researched different ways wood can be used or how it’s used so I can apply it and make creative ideas. I chose my object because I felt like there are a lot of things in wood can be used for therefore I developed my ideas using a mind map to make it easier to think of different ideas in which my object is related to. I used many different mediums and object which help me make creative things. I would like to explore more on how wood is used to make different things and how I can apply that transformation to this project. I learnt a lot during this project mostly how am object can lead to many different ideas and how one object can be used to make so much things. The research helped me most think of ideas which was very beneficial. My thinking has changed by developing a deeper understanding to an object or material, and looking at the ways it can be used to make different things.
